Background

The following report is provided as an update on major projects as set out in the 2026 Work Program that are ongoing in nature and were scheduled to commence and/or to be completed in the first quarter, with the lead on same being the primary responsibility of Fleet & Facilities.

10.2 – Facility Upgrades – Highbury & Wonderland Facilities

The upgrades included in the 2026 capital program relate to both facilities. Projects included in the facility upgrade capital program are intended to ensure the facilities are maintained in good repair and to address any issues identified by the Occupational Health and Safety Committee.

Projects that were completed in the First quarter include:

  • new wagon upper brush assembly on the Wonderland facility, West Wash
  • new wagon upper brush assembly on the Highbury facility, South Wash
  • door replacement on 21 track at the Highbury facility
  • rebuild of piston lower bearing assembly on hoist 18 at the Highbury facility
  • fire monitoring panel replacement at the Wonderland facility
  • backflow replacement valves, C Barn Highbury facility
  • new office construction Highbury facility

The remainder of the 2026 projects includes:

  • new venting installation, tire shop, Highbury facility
  • replacement of garage doors in various barns, both facilities
  • interior painting of both facilities
  • asphalt replacement in both facilities
  • concrete repairs in both facilities
  • replacement of roof sections B Barn Highbury Facility
  • replacement of rear hoist post assemblies at the Wonderland facility

10.3 – Shop and Garage Equipment

Projects in the Shop and Garage Equipment program which have been completed to date include:

  • ongoing replacement of tools and toolboxes for mechanics at both facilities
  • replacement Inspector van outfitted and placed into service

Other – Ministry of Transportation Regulatory Amendments

A standing item on the annual Work Program is the monitoring and compliance with all Ministry of Transportation (MTO) regulations and amendments. Facility audits conducted over the past quarter found no violations, including safety-related or non-safety-related issues. London continues to have an excellent rating regarding road violations. London will continue to be chosen as the training facility for all new MTO Officers as needed.
