Background

The Accessible Public Transit Service Advisory Committee is made up of a maximum of nine (9) voting members representing different types of disabilities, and four (4) non-voting members representing agencies who support the disability community in London. In early May, administration began seeking new applicants for the Accessible Public Transit Service Advisory Committee (APTSAC) as a number of vacancies had occurred as the result of Committee member resignations.

The two member categories, as set out in the Committee terms of Reference are set out below for reference purposes.

Voting Members

A maximum of nine (9) members representing the different types of disabilities as referenced in the Ontarians with Disability Act 2001. This includes persons with visual, speech, hearing, deaf, brain injury, cognitive, perceptual, mental health disabilities and those requiring the use of wheelchairs and/or other mobility assisted devices.

One (1) member of the London Transit Commission who is also an elected member of Municipal Council.

Non-Voting Members

A maximum of four (4) members consisting of agencies supporting the disabled community and service providers.

A total of five (5) available positions are currently available for the term ending November 2026. The available positions include two (2) voting members and three (3) non-voting. The following applications were received:

Applicants Voting Non-Voting
Penny Moore X
John Tyrone Whiston X
Jody Goldhawk X
Lauren McLean X

Given current vacancies, the Commission will need to select two of the three applications for voting positions. The application for non-voting can be approved as there is only one.

An orientation meeting will be included as part of the next scheduled APTSAC meeting which will include all members.
