Occupational Health & Safety Policy

We recognize and accept our overall responsibility for occupational health and safety in the workplace. We will make every reasonable effort to provide a healthy and safe work environment as indicated by acceptable industry standards and will meet or exceed all legislated requirements. All managers, supervisors and workers will be dedicated to the objective of reducing the risk of injury and illness.

All employees, including managers and supervisors, will receive ongoing training about their respective health and safety responsibilities, and will be individually accountable for fulfilling their responsibilities. Performance with respect to health and safety will be an important criterion in evaluating job performance.

It is the responsibility also of all outside contractors and their employees to meet legislated Health and Safety requirements.

Every employee and contractor must protect his/her health and safety by following all work practices and procedures established by legislation and/or London Transit. It is the responsibility of employees and contractors to report all unsafe or unhealthy conditions. Appropriate disciplinary action will be taken against any employee or contractor who engages in an unsafe act or who fails to comply with established safe work practices and procedures.

Supervisors/managers will be held accountable for the health and safety of workers under their supervision, they are responsible to ensure that equipment is safe and workers follow established safe work practices and procedures.

It is in the best interest of all parties to consider health and safety in every activity. Commitment to health and safety will form an essential part of this organization. This policy will be renewed annually by the General Manager and management in consultation with the Joint Health and Safety Committee.
